About the Sports Boosters of Maryland
The Sports Boosters of Maryland is a non-profit organization dedicated to making a difference in our community by supporting childrens’ sports programs SINCE 1950.
The Sports Boosters has been an integral part of the local and regional sports scene since 1950. For more than half a century our annual banquets and community events have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to further promote children’s sports programs. These dollars provide the bridge funding to allow to these local organizations to thrive by assisting with the purchase of uniforms, equipment, scoreboards, field prep, and other numerous needs.
Founded by Michael Fox in 1950, a small group of men from the Baltimore area felt a desire to meet once a month, talk sports, and help out children – all at the same time. This tradition has continued, non –stop since that first meeting. With no paid staff, The Sportsboosters is an all volunteer run organization, with a 501c3 federal designation. All funds raised go back to the children!
The Sportsboosters feel that participation in sports promote a healthier physical and mental person, andthat the children will continue to draw on these lessons.- all through the growing and maturing years. It is through the generous contributions of our community that keeps this idea moving forward- particularly in this world of commuters, PDAs cell phones, ipods, and video games.
Over the years , events have honored the top names in local and national sports- including Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, Kirby Puckett, Ray Lewis, Pete Rose, Sugar Ray Leonard, Earl Weaver, Jim Palmer, Elrod Hendricks, Art Modell, Chuck Thompson, Ed Hale, Jon Miller, Charley Eckman, Bert Jones, Steve Geppi, Eddie Murray and Cal Ripken, Jr, and Dave Trembley.
Our organization has brought together a diverse group of members and supporters who share a deep passion for sports and an even deeper commitment to helping children. Some of the organizations that have benefited from funds raised include Ronald McDonald House, Leon Day Foundation, Inner City/Suburban Youth Foundation, The Bennett Institute, Greater Baltimore Urban League, Camp Putok, The Jewish Big Brother/Big Sisters as well as many more local youth groups. We also fund many unknown groups including local Little Teams, AAU Teams, and Cheerleading Teams.
Membership is open to anyone interested in sports, helping children, and having fun doing so. Click here to join….and help the children of our community- who deserve it !
